Banned Books

I know, I know, Banned Book Week was September 26 - October 3 and I'm a bit late to the game, but at least I got here. I was checking blogs this morning, and I saw that one of my favorite authors, Richelle Mead (I know, I should change the name of this blog to the I (heart) Richelle Mead Blog), has been banned at a school in Texas. Which got me to thinking about banned books all over again.

I don't just read banned books during Banned Book Week, I read them all year. Feel free to take one (or more) for yourself!

  1. Those are great!!

I love Richelle Mead too. Haven't read her YA books yet though. But her Succubus series is awesome. :P

  2. I was actually quite shocked to discover that Richelle Mead's 'Vampire Academy' series has been banned in Texas (well, one district of).
I wonder if lots of supernatural/urban fantasy books would be banned in the Bible belt simply because it's Heathen to think that vampires and werewolves actually exist (then again, Lazarus did rise from the dead...)???

I really can't wrap my mind around the idea of a state in the U.S of A banning books. Don't you guys have a little thing called the first amendment?

    ** Vampire Academy SPOILER **

I would be really interested to know what their justification was for banning Mead's books. Was it the fantasy angle, or the fact that a student has an affair with her teacher? Or that there is teenagers having sex?

Danielle - I wondered too if it was the student/teacher relationship too. Or the sex/drinking angle. Either way, it's really not a good reason to ban it...

  4. Patti, I hope you don't mind, but I did take one... And I will post up at my place after the birthday party... because I actually went online and bought two banned books that I have been wanting to get in my collection... But I agree with you... I not only read banned books during those weeks, but all year long! I hope you had a wonderful weekend my friend. And I am glad that you are feeling better!
