Waiting on Wednesday: Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

I have been waiting for the release of Shadowfever, the conclusion of her phenomenal Fever series, since I finished reading the last page of Dreamfever - talk about a cliffhanger ending! Shadowfever was originally due to be released in December, then got pushed back to January. Was I disappointed? Sure. But Ms. Moning has promised it's worth the wait! I need my Mac and Barrons fix now!!!

From the author's website:

"Evil is a completely different creature, Mac.
Evil is bad that believes it's good."

MacKayla Lane was just a child when she and her sister, Alina were given up for adoption and banished from Ireland forever.

Twenty years later, Alina is dead and Mac has returned to the country that expelled them to hunt her sister's murderer. But after discovering that she descends from a bloodline both gifted and cursed, Mac is plunged into a secret history: an ancient conflict between humans and immortals that have lived concealed among us for thousands of years.

What follows is a shocking chain of events with devastating consequences, and now Mac struggles to cope with grief, while continuing her mission to acquire and control the Sinsar Dubh--a book of dark, forbidden magic scribed by the mythical Unseelie King that contains the power to create and destroy worlds.

In an epic battle between humans and Fae, the hunter becomes the hunted when the Sinsar Dubh turns on Mac, and begins mowing a deadly path through those she loves.

Who can she turn to? Who can she trust? Who is the woman that haunts her dreams? More importantly, who is Mac and what is the destiny she glimpses in the black and crimson designs of an ancient tarot card?

From the luxury of the Lord Master's penthouse, to the sordid depths of an Unseelie nightclub, from the erotic bed of her lover, to the terrifying bed of the Unseelie King, Mac's journey will force her to face the truth of her exile, and make a choice that will either save the world...or destroy it.

AND - the best part - Karen Marie Moning just announced she's coming to New Orleans for the Shadowfever launch party!!! Woot! I am so freakin' excited!! It looks like she's planning events for Monday January 17 (Martin Luther King day here in the US) and Tuesday January 18. I wouldn't normally take a day off for a booksigning, but this is an exception to that rule - Ms. Moning knows how to throw a party and this is one of my all-time favorite series - I can't take both days off so I'm going to have to figure out which day I should be there...Anyone else thinking of coming in?

  1. Hi, Patti - I saw her announcement about the launch party in N.O., too -- I haven't read her Fever series yet (I like her Highlander series, though). I don't think I can make it to this signing, but I am looking into the Karen Essex signing at Octavia books for Dracula in Love.

Have fun if you go! I know it will be awesome!

  3. That is fabulous news! The 17th is my anniversary. I’ll see if Dh wants to take a trip to New Orleans to celebrate ;)

  4. I meant to ask. Have you heard any more details on Jeaniene Frost’s planned visit?

  5. Joanne: I saw the Karen Essex thing too. I'm not familiar with her but wouldn't mind meeting up if I can get away (it's on a work night!)

Jessica: It's one of my fave series - I definitely recommend!

Christie: That would be awesome if you could come in!!! And no, I haven't heard anything yet re Jeaniene Frost and I'm getting frustrated b/c that's looking like a busy weekend!

  6. I'll look forward to your review when it comes out, to see if I'll pick the series up again. One of the cliffhanger endings really pissed me off. :)

  7. I am seriously thinking of going to this from NJ. I love NO and would love to go back again and this time I'll invite DH and the teenager to come too! Joanne, please reconsider!! I won a copy from Dar's site, am eager to read it in December!

  8. AHHHHHH BARRONS! I'm DYING for this one, I about had a heart attack at the end of Dreamfever. Thought I might need to spend a little time in a padded room:) I can't wait for this, I'm ready to have some of my questions answered. Come on January!

  12. Chris: Book 4's cliffhanger was *aaarrrggghhh!*

Julie: That would be so cool if you came down! Joanne, yes, reconsider :)

Jenny: LOL, many of us will probably be checking into that padded room with you ;)

Blodeuedd: You haven't read these? You have a real treat ahead of you!

KC: Yes, it seems eons away, yet Christmas seems like it's sneaking up on me. What gives?

Larissa: Oh yes, having the whole series out at once is probably a good idea - cliffhanger endings won't be so bad.

  13. Patti: I think I might've given up after Book 3's cliffhanger! Cliffhanger's piss me off....

  14. Cliffhangers annoy me, too -- I think that's why I scream every time I read about how "THe Empire Strikes Back" was the best "Star Wars" movie. No, it wasn't! It was all about keeping you hanging for the next one! Arghghghgh.

I have an advance copy of a book worth waiting for: "Stronger than Sin," a romance and a thriller, with paranormal elements, even science fiction. (And take a look at the cover...) Great page-turner, with lots of romance. I'm going back to pick up the first in a series (definitely don't need to read them as part of a series, by the way -- I just want to) -- and more are planned, which I love.

  15. Girrrrrrrrrrrrrrl. This series has caused me so much anxiety that I've gotten to the point where I just can't even read the monthly teasers for Shadowfever, they make me hyperventilate! This book is the true EPIC release of 2011 for us Urban Fantasy lovers. I can't wait to do a re-read of the series closer to the end of the year because I need a refresher, stat!
