What's in a name? Tell me what you think!

So, here's the deal:

When I started this blog back in 2009, it took me forever to pick a name. I wanted Book Junkie, but it was already taken (by a wonderful blogger, btw *waves at Brande). So I played around a bit more and picked Book Addict. That was before I realized just how many book blogs are out there and so many more have come into existence since then. And a lot of them have some form of "book addict" in their name. I actually thought about this once before but in the end I left it alone. Of course, this could all be due to thefact that I grew up as a Navy Brat and consequently I find that I need change after awhile :)

The other day I was reading comments on another blog and someone signed their comment "Book Addict". This made me wonder if people who "know" me thought it was me. And I'm wondering if I need a more unique name.

I've been Book Addict for almost two years, and I don't know if it would be too confusing at this point. So here's what I'm thinking:

Caught in a
bad FAB
Romance!

Because I do get caught up in the books I read. If it's a really good book, whether PNR, contemporary, or other, I get transported into those pages and live vicariously through the characters. AND that title makes it obvious that this is a romance book blog. (I figure that song will be around the romance community for a while so it won't get old...)

So, to change or not to change...that is the question. Is it too late for me: am I "branded" or is change good? Your thoughts are welcome - pro or con... you might have a point I haven't thought of yet.

  4. Amy: Lol, it wasn't you :)

Blodeuedd: yes, your name is very unique.

Chris: I'd leave it the same. I'd leave my header the same and only change the name.

  5. I think it's cute, I would wonder if the domain name would be confusing for people. But we'll get used to it if you change. :-)

  7. Like I already told you per email: Go for it! :) We'll get used to it and I agree with Tam, the new name is cute!

Btw I didn't know you were a Navy Brat too. Maybe that's why I need change after a while as well. LOL.

  9. Patti,

I really like "Book Addict" and totally associate it with your blog. It's catchy. If you do decide to change the name (rebrand), I suggest you use something equally short & catchy.

  10. Might be a bit confusing because of your domain name... and also like Vicky said, short names are best! I like Book Addict :)

  11. I had such a hard time naming my blog, I wanted "I've Just Finished Reading" cause I always have the urge to start a book review with that line, but it was already taken.

I've had two names for my blogs, both boring but oh well, hehe. I like Book Addict Patti, and it's a pain changing identities especially once you are well established.

  14. I'd say go for it...really it is what you want to do. I have also been toying with the thought of changing my name but it would be easier for me since I haven't been around as long as you and I don't have your following. I think it would take some getting used to by your followers but I think everyone would get it. It's the same as people who change their buttons or their backgrounds...your followers aren't used to it but they adjust and adapt. And honestly, I don't normally pay much attention to someones domain name...is that bad?!
